DISCOVER KALYMNOS

This island combines the rich history of sponge divers with world-famous climbing routes and breathtaking scenery. It’s as authentic as the sponge diver’s hands, as rugged as its mountain peaks, and as peaceful as the Grande Grotta at sunset.

Castle of Chrysocheria

Built in a strategic location with panoramic views, the Castle of Chrysocheria is one of Kalymnos’ most important medieval monuments. Constructed in the 15th century by the Knights of Saint John, it served as a refuge for locals during pirate raids. Today, visitors can walk through the ruins and admire frescoes from the churches within the castle walls. At the foot of the hill lie three stone windmills, a landmark of the island. The first windmill has been restored with a functioning mechanism to grind grain, just as it was done in the past.

Chorio (The Village)

Chorio is one of the oldest and most authentic settlements on Kalymnos and served as the island’s capital for centuries. As you stroll through its narrow alleyways, you’ll encounter stone-paved courtyards, traditionally built homes, and a sense of timeless tranquility. The main attraction here is the Byzantine Great Castle. Also worth visiting is the Church of Panagia Charitomeni, known for its gilded iconostasis. Chorio is ideal for those who want to experience Kalymnos beyond the typical tourist path and get to know its true spirit.

Vathys

Vathys is one of the most beautiful and lesser-known spots on Kalymnos. Nestled in a fjord-like inlet that resembles a natural lake surrounded by steep cliffs, this small harbor is dotted with traditional boats and quaint tavernas serving local delicacies. On the northern rocky side of the narrow Rina bay, lies the Daskalio Cave, where artifacts have been discovered, indicating human activity dating back to the late Neolithic period.

Myrties Beach

Located on the western side of Kalymnos, Myrties Beach is a favorite destination for both locals and visitors. Facing the lush islet of Telendos, which majestically rises across the water, the beach offers a mix of serenity and rugged natural beauty. With its clear blue waters and pebbled shore, it’s one of the island’s most stunning beaches. It’s well-organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas, while just a few steps back are traditional tavernas and cafés perfect for watching the sunset. From Myrties, small boats also depart for nearby Telendos, adding a sense of adventure to this already enchanting location.
