It has been designated as a protected natural monument and it is a reason to visit the island. The famous Museum of Natural History of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos has been part of the UNESCO Global Network of Geoparks since 2004 and highlights the impressive finds of the Petrified Forest in its modern facilities.
