Amorgos: A beautiful island that was turned into a movie

Amorgos

Magnetic and deeply mysterious, Amorgos attracts tourists from all over the world for the images depicted in "Le Grand Bleu". The truth is, however, that even the cinematic lens of Lyc Besson and the romance of French cinema cannot capture all the wild and amazing beauty of Amorgos.

Beaches

It is no coincidence that the sea of Amorgos was chosen to star in a movie. The famous Agia Anna, the stunning beach of Mouro, the exotic Kalotaritissa, the pristine beaches of Mikri and Megali Vlihada, and the little Paradisia stand out for their beauty and clear waters. Do not miss yet, the beautiful beach of Agios Pavlos, for a unique sunset overlooking the rocky island of Nykourias.

Food & Culture

Food Amorgos not only has amazing landscapes, but also amazing food. Here you will taste the famous Amorgian baked raki, delicious kefalotyri, fava, fine honey and traditional patatato (goat meat with potatoes). Choose one of the seaside taverns in the harbor to enjoy excellent fresh fish and local appetizers.

Culture The human history of the island begins somewhere in the 4th millennium BC. The ancient city of the Minoans, Arkesini of Naxians, the Byzantine monastery of Hozoviotissa and the ancient settlement of Asphondilite are just some of the sights you will meet. In Chora you will admire the paved Lozza and the Venetian Castle that stands imposing on the top of the rock.

Activities & Nightlife

Activities If you are a fan of hiking, you will undoubtedly fall in love with Amorgos. The island is famous for its paths and roads through the wild, untouched nature, the steep slopes with the background of the sea and the village-ornaments. Do not miss the green gorge of Araklos where you will feel one with nature.

Nightlife If you fancy a party until the morning, Amorgos may not be the right place. Nevertheless, nightlife is simply at a slower pace. In the beautiful Aegiali you will find quiet cocktail bars overlooking the Aegean, such as the legendary "Que", "Ammos" and in the picturesque Lagada the beautiful "Selavi".
