Among old arcades, turquoise waters, and charming mansions, Leros unfolds the most effortless beauty of the Aegean.

Agia Marina

Agia Marina is the heart of Leros and one of its most lively and cosmopolitan spots. Visitors can stroll through narrow alleyways lined with neoclassical homes, enjoy the little harbor with traditional boats, and visit important sites like the Archaeological Museum of Leros and the church of Agia Marina with its distinctive bell tower. The area is ideal for walks, shopping in local boutiques, and dining at seaside tavernas. As evening falls, it transforms into a quiet, atmospheric locale while retaining its authentic charm.

Lakki

As the ship’s ramp lowers, your eyes fall upon a harbor unlike any other in the Aegean. Lakki is Leros' surprise harbor, a settlement unique not just on the island, but across all of Greece. With strong Italian influences and modernist architecture from the interwar period, Lakki resembles more an open-air architectural museum than a typical island village. Notable landmarks include the circular market with its iconic clock, the old theater, the striking church of Saint Nicholas with its geometric lines, and the historic primary school. Lakki isn’t just the gateway to the island, it’s a vibrant open-air museum that fuses history with the island’s serene ambiance

Alinda

Alinda is one of the most popular and vibrant villages on Leros, built around a sheltered bay with crystal-clear waters and an organized beach. It’s perfect for those seeking both relaxation and activity, offering water sports, seaside walks, and delightful cafés and tavernas. Dominating the area is the impressive Belleni Tower, a restored mansion that now houses a folklore and historical museum, showcasing exhibits on local traditions and the island’s wartime history.

Castle of Panagia (Virgin Mary’s Castle)

A landmark of Leros, the Castle of Panagia stands on the hill above Panteli, offering stunning views of the entire island. A Byzantine structure dating back to the 11th or 12th century, the castle served for centuries as both a defensive stronghold and a place of worship. On its western side is the chapel of Panagia Kastrini, home to a miraculous icon dearly loved by locals. The castle is a religious and spiritual symbol for the island. Whether reached by car or by the traditional footpath with approximately 500 steps, the climb is an unforgettable experience, set against a backdrop of the Aegean Sea, quaint villages, and nearby islets.

Windmills

Among the most iconic and photogenic sites on the island are the windmills of Leros, standing proudly on the hill between Panteli and Vourkos, overlooking the open sea. Well-preserved and harmoniously blended into the landscape, they recall the traditional island life of earlier times, when wind power was used to grind grain. Today, they are beloved spots for walks, photography, and relaxing, especially at sunset when they are bathed in golden light. The windmill at the highest point of the hill remains a working model of traditional technology, preserving its original mechanism.
